AS Level 1 – Advanced Acting
This course focuses on advanced film acting techniques primarily derived from Stephen Book’s methods. The ability to deliver a skilled performance while adhering to scripted and memorized lines is crucial for actors. Given the minimal rehearsal time in contemporary film and television productions, Stephen Book’s techniques teach actors how to achieve spontaneity in performances by integrating improvisation with traditional script-acting for film, theater, and television.
AS Level 2 – Meisner Technique
This course introduces rigorous exercises and scene work grounded in the Meisner Technique. This method aids actors in developing authentic performances by:
- Responding truthfully: Encouraging genuine responses to their environment and scene partners.
- Being present: Ensuring actors remain fully engaged in the moment.
- Enhancing listening and observational skills: Promoting spontaneous reactions based on the scene’s reality.
- Utilizing imagination: Supporting emotional preparation for scenes through imaginative development.
- Living truthfully: Emphasizing realistic portrayals, even within fictional contexts.
AS Level 3 – Meisner Scene Work
This level involves script analysis, character analysis, and filmed scene work utilizing the Meisner Technique. The focus is on character development and ensuring actor responses align accurately with the character. Actors learn to organically adapt their emotional expressions to suit the character’s perspective, facilitating transformative and challenging performances.
AS Level 4 – The Modern Method
This updated version of Method Acting draws upon the works of Stella Adler and Lee Strasberg. The Method allows actors to achieve performances that genuinely resonate with audiences by authentically re-experiencing the life implied by the story’s circumstances. Lee Strasberg described Method Acting as the inherent approach all actors use when performing successfully.
