The second wave of the COVID pandemic filled hospitals and cremations grounds and produced thousands of tragic stories of illness and loss. As they did in the first wave and throughout the lockdown, many selfless Bollywood actors, producers, directors and writers came together to help out. Through various foundations and individually, with and without publicity, Bollywood personalities helped out.
Among them:
Aanand L Rai, Bhumi Pednekar, and Dinesh Vijan came together with Art of Living & Zerodha for the “Taare Zameen Pe” initiative. They hope to reach out to as many kids as possible, starting from Karnataka. With the blessings of Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, they have come together for this work – Producer Mahaveer Jain (ChangeWithin) & Nikhil Kamath (Zerodha). Recently, they had successfully administered a free vaccination campaign for media & entertainment industry, along with Rajkumar Hirani and Karan Johar.

Famous Bollywood playback singer and composer Mohit Chauhan in partnership with NIVESH, a Delhi-based NGO, has contributed Covid relief materials worth Rs 1.5 cr to Arunachal Pradesh under ‘Project Bajrangi’, their Covid relief campaign. Contributed jointly by Mohit and NIVESH, the relief materials were handed over to Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju. The items include 5000 N-95 masks, 5000 medical kits, 1250 Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) kits and 50 Oxygen concentrators. The team has also extended support to the folk and performing artists of Arunachal who have lost their livelihood due to Covid pandemic by providing over 200 ration kits. “The ration kits will be given to the folk musicians of the state who are struggling to survive amid the pandemic. It is a noble thought to reach out to the artists in a hilly terrain like Arunachal Pradesh where fund flow, resources and all means to earn have dried up with no events to perform,” Mohit said while handing over the relief to Rijiju, who conveyed gratitude to the singer and the NGO for the humanitarian gesture.
